LIGHTEN. BRIGHTEN. REFRESH AND REJUVENATE.
Chemical peels are a type of skin-resurfacing procedure used to reduce sun spots, age spots, wrinkles, discoloration, uneven skin texture, and scars. A chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The new skin revealed is fresh, smooth and younger looking.
At Evolution MedSpa, we provide various levels of facial chemical peels ranging from Superficial to Medium-Deep.
Superficial peels, such as glycolic and lactic acid peels are the most mild, and are used to treat very fine lines, dehydrated skin, mild pigmentation and acne. Lactic acid peels are hydrating and brightening, while glycolic peels, due to their larger molecular structure, penetrate more quickly and deeper.
Salicylic peels are another type of superficial peel that is known to work well on oily skin types, helping to control oil production on acne prone skin. Salicylic acid is known to treat deeper and has anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness and irritation.
The most frequently used Medium-Deep peel is Trichloroacetic acid. TCA peels are available in varying strengths and combinations and are a great option for treating advanced skin pigmentation, deeper wrinkles, and acne scarring.
The best way to determine your chemical peel treatment options is to meet with one of our licensed estheticians. Contact us today for your free consultation and be sure to ask about our combination chemical peel solutions.
During a chemical peel, most people feel a burning sensation for about 5-10 minutes followed by a stinging sensation. Depending on the type of solution being used, a neutralizer may be applied to reduce burning. Some chemical peels are self neutralizing. Putting cold compresses on the skin may ease that stinging.
Your skin’s condition after a chemical peel will depend on the type and strength of chemical peel you receive. After 24 hours your skin will feel tighter and more red than usual. Peeling will generally start 48-72 hours after application and can last for 2-5 days.
A gentle cleanser should be used following your treatment. Scrubbing should be avoided while peeling. A hydrating moisturizer should be used twice daily or however many times necessary to relieve dryness and reduce peeling. A sunblock should be worn daily and prolonged sun exposure should be avoided for the week following your peel.
