A brief background about laser technology and how different types of laser are used in medical treatments and cosmetic laser treatments on Long Island for hair removal, tattoo removal, skin rejuvenation and more.
Laser technology offers a wide range of ability to treat varying issues, both cosmetic and medical. Laser technology was first used in the medical field to destroy a retinal tumor in the eye of a human way back in 1961! Over the decades, laser technology has continued to improve tremendously and has been FDA approved to treat and improve many conditions. Since eye surgery, aka LASIK, was approved by the FDA in the 90’s, it has been performed over 19 million times to improve vision, treating myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, astigmatism and more.
There are a few things that make laser particularly effective and versatile as a treatment for skin and tissue related conditions.
An excerpt from Stanford Healthcare explains how laser works on the skin:
“As the light beam hits the skin, the skin may either reflect the light away, scatter the light, absorb the light, or let the light pass right through the different layers of the skin. Each layer of the skin uses the light differently.
Certain parts of the skin, called chromophones, absorb the light. When these chromophones absorb the light, physical, mechanical, chemical, or temperature changes may occur in the tissue.
There are many different types of lasers, including the carbon dioxide laser, the YAG (neodymium, or yttrium aluminum garnet) laser, and the argon laser. Each one works in a different manner and may be used for different treatment options. Laser light can be delivered either continuously or intermittently.”
Additionally, lasers have the ability to treat hard to reach locations with great precision. For these reasons, laser technology is used successfully in many surgical medical procedures, as well as non-surgical cosmetic procedures like the ones we provide here at Long Island’s cosmetic medical spa, Evolution MedSpa in Commack

IPL (Intense Pulse Light)
Diode (Soprano Ice)
Each of the three laser systems we offer can provide effective removal of different types of unwanted hair. We treat areas including, bikini, underarms, chest and back, neck, face, legs, and arms. The type of laser used will be determined based on a few things including:
- texture of hair
- thickness of hair
- color of hair
- color of skin
- pain tolerance
- location of unwanted hair
- size of the area to be treated
During your free consultation with us, your hair removal specialist will discuss the best treatment plan to get your desired results for removing unwanted hair.
To most effectively remove tattoos, varying wavelength settings will be used to target the release of different colored pigments into the skin to then be reabsorbed and disposed of by the body. Different colors are targeted using different wavelengths.
Our Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser offers the two wavelength settings (1064 nm and 532 nm) that most effectively target the spectrum of colors seen above.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation on Long Island
Our ClearLift treatment aka Lunchtime Facelift, uses the HarmonyXL Pro laser system by Alma, which is a Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser. It is based on a unique method of energy dispersion, emitting narrow pulse widths with multiple peaks of energy, resulting in more effective treatment.
The ClearLift laser works by using targeted light therapy to cause minor injury to the dermis layer of the skin which causes a natural increase in collagen production. The stimulation of new collagen growth helps to reduce pore size, fill in fine lines and wrinkles, repair lost skin volume, boost elasticity, and more.
IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light It is different from your traditional laser because it emits light at multiple wavelengths, as opposed to just one wavelength. Since it emits light at multiple wavelengths, it has the ability to target different levels of pigmentation in the dermis without harming the epidermis, making it effective in minimizing or removing:
- age spots
- sun damage
- spider veins
- broken blood vessels on your face
- hair on your face, neck, back, chest, legs, underarms, or bikini line
During your free consultation with us, your laser skin rejuvenation specialist will discuss the best treatment plan to get your desired results.
